His training in sitar started when he was 12. His dedication to hard practice and respect for his guru, Ustad Vilayat Khan, bore fruit and today Dharambir, still in his early twenties, is considered one of his foremost disciples and one of the foremost young sitarists of India.<br /> <br /> Dharambir’s first public performance was at the Shankar Hall in Delhi when he was 15 years old. Since then he has given many concerts throughout the various states in India. He came to England in 1979 and has been working hard to propagate Indian Classical music in this country.<br /> <br /> He appeared at the Purcell Room for the first time in 1980 and since then has been at the South Bank Halls three times.
