1986

They performed dances of the 16th century in Leominster Festival 1984 alongside The Consort of Songe when they were directed by Sheila Parret. They returned the following festival, in 1986, to perform as part of the event Song and Dance at the Court of Elizabeth I.

Programme Biography (1984)

THE PASSAMEZZO EARLY DANCE GROUP was founded by Sue Warren about three years ago. It gives performances in costumes created by Janet Milner based on historic examples. The dance music used in this performance is mainly 16th century Italian reconstructed from original sources. The dances will be of Italian, French and English origins.

Programme Biography (1986)

The Passamezzo Early Dance Group, based in Herefordshire, was formed four years ago by a group of people all interested in the music, costumes, history and the authentic performances of the dances of the Renaissance period.

Dances are carefully researched from original manuscripts and are performed in complete period costume. All of these impressive costumes have been specially made for the members of the Group.

After two years of study, Passamezzo was approached by various organisations with invitations to perform their dramatic and colourful dance demonstrations. The Passamezzo programme has been presented at a variety of venues and occasions in many parts of Great Britain including the Welsh Festival of Castles, Festival of Early Dance in London and the International Colloquium of Renaissance Dance in Ghent, Belgium.

Their most recent appearance was at Caerphilly Castle, by arrangement with CADW, Welsh Historic Monuments, and further appearances for CADW will be held at Raglan Castle, Tretower Court near Brecon, and return visits to Caerphilly Castle.

  • Director — Sue Warren
  • Costumes — Janet Milner
  • Dances reconstructed by Mary Collins (Director “Dariserye”)
