Taken from the 1980 Leominster Festival programme (with minor edits):
Leslie Penning is a gifted and versatile medieval wind instrumentalist. Besides performing the works of medieval and renaissance composers, he has turned his talents to the modern idiom and collaborated with Mike Oldtield in such hits as In Dulce Jubilo, Portsmouth, Cuckoo Song and Ommadawn. He has also made many recordings in his own right. He is one of a growing band of musicians allowing us to hear early music on instruments of the period.
