A poetry competition was advertised and run in advance of the main festival, with the winners being revealed during An Evening of Words and Music at Dinmore Manor. The three age groups for the competition were:

  • Up to 11 years old
  • 11-16 years old
  • 16+

Programme Listing

During the evening of Words and Music at Dinmore Manor the winning poems in the Leominster Festival Poetry Competition will be read and the prizes presented. The competition attracted hundreds of entries, and prizes will be awarded in three age groups: up to 11 years, 11 — 16 years and 16+.

The judges for the competition are all practising and published writers.

  • Nicola Daw writes books for children, and her latest book “The Vet” was published last year.
  • Jenny Green is a writer and broadcaster. Her play on Jenny Morgan of Presteigne was recently broadcast on Radio 4.
  • Thony Handy has written several books of verse. His latest collection of poems: “No Borders” was published in 1985 by Five Seasons Press.
