Richard Baker was born in Willesden in North London and was educated at Kilburn Grammar School and Peterhouse Cambridge where he studied history and modern languages. Richard served in the Royal Navy and worked as a teacher and an actor before joining the BBC as an announcer in 1950. He became well known as a TV newsreader but has also taken part in many other Radio and TV programmes, such as “Start the week with Richard Baker”, “Face the Music”, “Omnibus” and presented many other Musical Programmes. In his concert work Richard Baker prefers works which require a narrator and enjoys giving concerts in partnership with other artists.
Raphael Terroni who is performing with Richard is an accomplished pianist. He has studied with John Vallio at the London College of Music and with the late Cyril Smith, the Rachmaninoff exponent Raphael has performed at the King’s Lynn and Belfast Festivals and at St. James’ Palace. He has a special interest in British Music and enjoys performing Chamber Music as well as solo work.
In 1979 Raphael was the winner of the first Festival Day Competition organised by the Incorporated Society of Musicians and sponsored by Nat West. Raphael Terroni is a Hon. Fellow and Professor of Piano at the London College of Music.
